URSULA GARTNER 1927 2010 On the morning of Thursday, September 9, 2010, Ursula Gartner passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospice, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Ursula will be lovingly remembered by her sons Michael and Christian; daughter-in-law Trina; grandson Kert (Sarah); as well as many friends and family in Canada, Germany and around the world. Ushi, as she was called, was born in Uelzen, Germany, on September 21, 1927. She immigrated to Canada on July 18, 1956, and settled in Winnipeg, along with her sons, who were seven and two years old at the time. Ursula worked for Winnipeg Photo and Sooters Photo Studio as a color calibration technician and lab supervisor and later for Artistic Studios. Upon retirement she travelled the world taking amazing photographs professionally for travel brochures, and others which she generously gifted to her family and friends. Ursula's happiest times were spent at her beloved cottage at Belair Beach, enjoying the peaceful serenity, gardening and watching magnificent sunsets surrounded by her friends on warm summer nights. She will be remembered often, and greatly missed. On Saturday, September 18, 2010, a Celebration of Ursula's Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories at Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the palliative team and home care workers who assisted Ursula; the staff and volunteers at Riverview and Grace Hospice who made her last days so peaceful and comfortable; and to her wonderful friends who continued to lovingly and compassionately nurture her throughout. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made in Ursula's memory to The Friends of the Assiniboine Park Conservatory towards the establishment for a Butterfly Conservatory, by calling Helene Fairbanks at 895-4560 or email: execdir@mts.net or to a charity of your choice. We thought of you with love today But that was nothing new We thought about you yesterday And days before that too. We think of you in silence We always speak your name, All we have are memories And your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake With which we'll never apart, God has you in his keeping We have you in our hearts.
